Special Education

One of the major intervention for below 17 years, the Centre for Special Education was the first to start at Disha.

Divided into two major streams - academic and non academic - the Centre reaches out to approximately 85 persons with special needs. Following the I.E.P., comprehensive planning is done for each child individually.

The educational programme is fortified with sports, art & craft, music, dance, drama and a number of pre-vocational skills, alongwith therapy and functional education.

Rhythm, Movement, Therapy and Fun The curriculum is geared towards developing skills & knowledge required for independent living and includes:
  • Reading & writing of at at least one or two languages.
  • Functional maths, concerning concepts like money, time and measurement .
  • Awareness of environment, which is done by taking up annual projects on topics like plants, animals, people who help us, people around us etc.
  • Developing skills for activities of daily living.
      
The staff comprises of a team of  experts working together - namely, special educator, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speach therapist, psychologist and  experts from fields of sports, art, music, dance and drama.

Money, Time & Measurement... That's what Maths is all about Other experts include counsellors, neurologists, orthopaedic surgeons, paediatritions etc.

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Hydro cephally
  • Micro cephally
  • Post meningitis
  • Down's syndrome & other mental challenges
  • Minimal brain dysfunction
